Case histories of various diseases and operations, lectures, bibliographies of medical books, foreign news, biographies and lists of accidents and cases at Pennsylvania hospitals were the subject matter of most articles in this periodical. Drawings and charts of reported cases were printed occasionally. Frequent attacks were made on homoeopathy. In later issues long statistical lists of population, twin births, weather and results of surveys were printed. Accounts of annual meetings of the AMA and the Medical Society of Pennsylvania were given. Although the magazine remained the same size over the years of publication, the format varied from one to two columns. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
